To schedule an inspection for an active building permit, call (310) 973-3237 . Please schedule at least two weeks in advance to help ensure your preferred date is available.

Note: If you submit an inspection request by phone or online, wait for confirmation before proceeding. Requested dates are not guaranteed unless confirmed by staff.

The Planning Department inspects fences, sheds, flatwork (including hardscape and landscape within the front yard setback), and final project elements.

When Can Construction Work be Done?

Construction work is permitted during the following hours. Work conducted outside these times may result in a stop-work notice and code enforcement action:

  • Monday - Friday: from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday and City observed holidays: No work allowed!

Who Do I Contact for Construction Work Done in the Public Right-of-Way?

To inspect any work performed in sidewalks, streets, curbs, or alleys, contact the Public Works Department at (310) 973-3260 . An encroachment permit is required before any work may begin in the public right-of-way.
