FAQs

Why Are Building Inspections Important?

Licensed building inspectors evaluate construction work to identify safety hazards and structural issues.

What is a Building Inspection?

A building inspection involves a licensed inspector reviewing various types of construction work to ensure quality and compliance with minimum building code requirements. These include:

  • Electrical systems
  • Foundations
  • Grading
  • Mechanical systems
  • Plumbing
  • Roofs
  • Sewer connections
  • Solar PV systems
  • Structural integrity
  • Other work regulated by the Building Code

What is a Planning Inspection?

A planning inspection differs from a building inspection. A city planner examines fences, front yard landscaping and hardscaping, sheds, signs, and structures to verify compliance with zoning regulations.

When Can Construction Work be Done?

Construction work is permitted during the following hours. Work conducted outside these times may result in a stop-work notice and code enforcement action:

  • Monday - Friday: from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday and City observed holidays: No work allowed!
