Due to the large number of concerns from residents and business owners about excessive noise and disturbances from illegal fireworks each year, the Lawndale City Council recently adopted changes to Municipal Code 8.12.120 which addresses the use and possession of illegal fireworks. Beginning Saturday, July 1st additional deputies will begin patrolling the City with the specific intent to issue Administrative Citations in the amount of $2,500 to people caught in possession and use of illegal fireworks. Deputies will also be in unmarked, undercover vehicles patrolling the City and will now have the ability to issue citations to homeowners and business owners who allow their tenants to use illegal fireworks even on private property. Violators of this ordinance who receive citations will be subject to a $5,000 citation if they are caught again for the same violation within a five year period of the original citation date.
